What's on in Pollokshields

Weekly fixtures, a month-by-month guide to the year with weather and daylight, dated events from November 2026 to October 2027, and the faith festivals that shape the local calendar.

The Burrell is free every day, Pollok parkrun runs every Saturday, and Tramway has a new exhibition or show most weeks. Around those fixed points, the year follows the seasons and the festivals of Pollokshields' Sikh, Muslim, Hindu and Christian communities.

Dates here were checked on 31 October 2026. Where an event has not yet been confirmed for 2027, we say "check" and give its usual timing.

Every week

  • Pollok parkrun: every Saturday at 9.30am in Pollok Country Park. A free, timed 5km. Register online first and bring your barcode.
  • Shawlands Farmers Market: first and third Saturday of each month, in Shawlands Civic Square outside Langside Halls, 5 Langside Avenue, G41 2QR. Coming dates: 7 November, 21 November, 5 December and 19 December 2026. Dates for 2027 had not been published when we checked.
  • The Burrell Collection: free every day. Burrell Bites talks run on Wednesdays until 23 December, and Discover! family sessions on Saturdays until 20 December 2026.
  • Tramway: galleries open Wednesday to Sunday, free.

There is no current farmers' market in Queen's Park. Shawlands is the nearest.

The year at a glance

May is the sunniest month and one of the driest; December and January are the wettest and darkest. Pack a waterproof whatever the month. Event timings for 2027 are typical patterns, so check closer to the date.

Festivals and faith dates

Pollokshields has large Sikh and Muslim communities, and their festivals bring the busiest, most colourful days on Albert Drive. Islamic dates depend on the sighting of the moon, and local mosques may differ by a day, so check close to the time.

Festival dates, November 2026 to May 2027
FestivalDateStatus
DiwaliSunday 8 November 2026 (festival about 6 to 10 November)Calculated
Ramadan beginsMonday 8 February 2027 (first evening prayers on 7 February)Tentative, check
Eid al-FitrTuesday 9 or Wednesday 10 March 2027Projected, check
VaisakhiWednesday 14 April 2027Fixed date
Eid al-AdhaMonday 17 May 2027Tentative, check

Diwali

Diwali falls on 8 November 2026. We found no organised Diwali event in Pollokshields itself, and there is no Hindu mandir in G41. Glasgow's main Hindu temple is Om Hindu Mandir, 1 La Belle Place, G3 7LH, in the Park area.

Ramadan

Ramadan is expected to begin on about 8 February 2027. During the month, many local people fast from dawn to sunset. After dark, Albert Drive and Maxwell Road take on a late-night buzz as families break the fast and food shops stay busy. There is no official night market; this is simply the neighbourhood's atmosphere.

Eid al-Fitr

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, expected on 9 or 10 March 2027. Expect congregational prayers at local mosques and families out in their best clothes.

Vaisakhi

Vaisakhi falls on 14 April 2027. Glasgow's nagar kirtan, a Sikh street procession, sets off from Glasgow Gurdwara Guru Granth Sahib on Albert Drive at about 9.30am. It crosses the Clyde to the Central Gurdwara on Berkeley Street and the Guru Nanak Gurdwara on Otago Street, and draws thousands of people.

The procession is held on a Sunday a week or so before Vaisakhi: in 2026 it was 5 April, and in 2025 it was 6 April. The 2027 date had not been announced when we checked.

Eid al-Adha

Eid al-Adha is expected on about 17 May 2027. Expect congregational prayers at local mosques.

Other dates

  • Bonfire Night, 5 November: there has been no council fireworks display since 2019. In 2026 Pollokshields and Govanhill share a Firework Control Zone from 30 October to 9 November, so setting off a firework anywhere inside it, including in a garden, is a criminal offence. Police have also set a dispersal zone in Pollokshields from 31 October to 6 November, after fireworks were aimed at officers and emergency crews in earlier years. Pollokshields has seen disorder around this date, including a bonfire on Albert Drive in 2024. Check local news before you go out that evening.
  • Remembrance Sunday, 8 November 2026: a two-minute silence at 11am. Glasgow's main service is at the Cenotaph in George Square.
  • St Andrew's Day, 30 November: Scotland's national day.
  • Christmas and Hogmanay: Christmas markets and New Year parties are in the city centre and West End. There is no council street party and no Southside market. Pollok House, which used to put on Christmas events, is closed for conservation work and had no confirmed reopening date when we checked. The Burrell usually closes on 25 and 26 December and 1 and 2 January, and early on Hogmanay.
  • Burns Night, 25 January: Burns suppers run in pubs and restaurants across the city; book ahead.
  • Glasgow Mela: a free one-day festival of South Asian music, dance and food in early July. In 2026 it was on Sunday 5 July in Kelvingrove Park in the West End, not the Southside.

Doors Open Days

Glasgow Doors Open Days is a free festival in September when buildings that are usually closed let the public in. It is part of Scotland's largest free festival, run by the Scottish Civic Trust, which began in Glasgow and Ayr in 1990.

  • When: the third weekend in September, Thursday to Sunday. In 2026 it ran 17 to 20 September with more than 150 free events. The 2027 dates had not been announced when we checked.
  • Booking: some events need booking, and the most popular book out. The 2026 Kenmure Street film night was fully booked.
  • In Pollokshields in 2026: tours of Glasgow Gurdwara on Albert Drive with a talk on Sikhism and a langar bread-making workshop; a film and talk on the 2021 Kenmure Street protest, when neighbours surrounded a Home Office immigration van; and the self-guided East Pollokshields trail. Titwood Bowling Club has also taken part.

The East Pollokshields digital trail runs from Maxwell Park station to Tramway and the Hidden Gardens, passing Art Nouveau tenements, the library, Greek Thomson's earliest surviving villa, wally closes, churches and mosques. You can walk it at any time of year. See Heritage walks.
